Behold the Age Difference…

Times have changed, that is true. However, some things just don´t change, one of them is the double standard.

A 40 something year old woman finds herself a young catch and it becomes news. A 50 something exec from Whatever Inc. leaves his wife in order to marry his 25 year old secretary and nothing happens, it´s business as usual. This is a sad situation for both women and men. Especially women. Are we supposed to not date younger men? Or are men so used to the practice of getting a younger model it has gone from sad to common?

A friend of mine once told me of her big plan to “show the world” that revenge is a dish served cold, or at least chilled. She was to present her new (much younger) boyfriend at the next social event she was to attend in New York. I suggested to her to stop plotting such unfruitful schemes, take her new boyfriend and do whatever sexual things came to mind in the confort of her home. Why did she feel the need to show everyone she was dating a younger man? Was it revenge for her ex-husband´s prancing around like an idiot with his new girlfriend or was it an affirmation of her own vitality and womanhood? I began to wonder about myself and many other women.
